Store Costco to Reportedly Begin Restricting Access to Its Food Court

Costco, the popular warehouse club, is reportedly planning to restrict access to its food court, a move that has sparked mixed reactions from its members. The decision to limit access to the food court is believed to be part of the company’s efforts to control crowds and adhere to social distancing guidelines amid the ongoing pandemic.

Costco’s food courts are known for their affordable and generously portioned meals, which have been a major draw for shoppers who visit the stores. The restrictions, however, are expected to impact customer experience and potentially lead to longer lines at the food court.

While some members have expressed disappointment and frustration over the anticipated changes, others have acknowledged the necessity of such measures in light of the current health crisis. Some have even applauded the company for prioritizing the safety and well-being of its customers.

The specifics of the restrictions, such as the implementation process and the criteria for access, have not been officially announced by Costco. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how these changes will impact the shopping experience and the overall satisfaction of Costco’s members.

For those without a Costco membership, getting your hands on the warehouse’s iconic $1.50 hot dog and soda combo might prove to be difficult in the weeks to come.

Currently, whether you’re able to purchase anything from Costco’s food court menu without a membership card seems to vary by location, but it appears that the warehouse might soon begin cracking down on the policy.

Just a few days ago, a Reddit user posted a photo of an ominous sign spotted at a Costco in Orlando. The announcement warned food court patrons that they would soon need a membership card to make a purchase.

“Effective April 8, 2024, an active Costco membership card will be required to purchase items from our food court. You can join today. Please see our membership counter for details,” the sign read.

Some users in the comments pointed out that membership cards have always been required for food court purchases, but the policy wasn’t always implemented.

“I’m pretty sure it was mandatory but just not enforced before,” one person wrote.

Washington D.C.’s Fox 5 also reported on the food court change in a news segment that aired this week. According to the segment, the food court will be “off-limits to people who would just come in to eat and not do any actual shopping in the store.”

Costco’s membership policies have made headlines several times in the past year. Most recently, the warehouse riled up customers when it was reported that they would begin testing a new policy that would require shoppers to scan their membership cards for entry.

How do you feel about this? I LOVE the Costco food court.
