Paulo Costa Releases 1st Social Media Statement After Close Loss to Robert Whittaker At UFC 298

The former UFC middleweight title challenger Paulo Costa has addressed his loss on X to Robert Whittaker at UFC 298.

In a great fight, Costa and Whittaker put on a ‘Fight of the Year’ contender in the UFC 298 co-main event. The two middleweights entered the Octagon with a lot to prove, and both Whittaker and Costa fought with plenty of urgency inside the cage and will to win.

After 15 minutes of fantastic action, Whittaker took home the unanimous decision win and is back in the mix of the UFC middleweight title picture.

Costa looked great given his nearly two-year layoff from competition entering UFC 298. He almost knocked out Whittaker in the first round with an incredible head kick and had plenty of favorable moments as the fight progressed.

But, Whittaker seemed to have done more work in the judges eyes. After the loss, Costa seemed upbeat and ready to get back on track whenever the UFC matchmakers call.

In a recent tweet on X, Costa reflected on his loss to Whittaker at UFC 298.

“Hey mftks you’re amazing thank you all for support,” Costa tweeted shortly after UFC 298. “During the fight, I felt like I was winning pressuring him back and hurt his face but judge thought different. Anyway I’m back no injuries and next I gonna pressure even more until finish. Lov u all.”

Costa was coming off a win over former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 278. Before that, he lost back-to-back fights to Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori, where he missed weight by quite a big and Marvin still took the fight and beat him.

Amidst his previous hiatus, Costa became a social media favorite amongst UFC fans. His admirable performance at UFC 298 showed that he remains one of the most dangerous fighters in the division.

Costa is turning the page on the Whittaker loss and could get back on track later this year. The UFC will return to Rio de Janeiro at UFC 301 on May 4, setting up Costa for a potential return date.
